Memórias de mães de crianças, adolescentes e jovens adultos sobre a alimentação

Abstract

Human language, of a symbolic nature, is the effect of the uninterrupted interrelationship between subjects, starting with the bond built between the baby and mother. Food, likewise, is an effect of the interaction between subjects, it is a symbolic conduit. They are instances of orality, behaviors initially constituted in the interaction between mother and baby, which will forever mark both feeding and speech, forming a space that can, eventually, offer signs and signals of problems in both functions, providing opportunities for the expansion of clinical observation. The investigation of the language-feeding relationship, and consequently of the interaction between the dyad, has gradually advanced in the field of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, leading to other studies and, more recently, to the question of maternal perceptions and behaviors in the food scene. This is because such contents are decisive in the design of the interaction between the mother and her children, as research already carried out points out. The objective of this research is to investigate the memories of mothers of first-born children, adolescents and young adults, with typical development, about the process of feeding their children: from breastfeeding to family meals. The method was descriptive, exploratory, mediated by a questionnaire, applied online, about children's diet. Results: The data showed that there is no significant difference between the answers of the 3 quotas that could be linked to the memory issue. On the other hand, in all quotas, only the questions related to breastfeeding and weaning were fully answered, showing that these are symbolic facts, which strongly mark the maternal memory. The data also show that mothers gradually introduce the child to more structured scenes, between breastfeeding and family meals, gladly recognizing their position in these scenes
